In the study, ID-alG™ (a seaweed extract from Ascophyllum nodosum) was evaluated for its effects on weight management in 24 high-fat-fed female Sprague-Dawley rats. ID-alG™ was orally administered daily for 9 weeks at doses of 40 and 400 mg/day with fat-enriched diet in comparison with two control groups; one consuming a standard diet and one consuming a fat-enriched diet. Change in weight, food and water intake, body fat mass and blood lipid parameters were measured. Results to the study confirm preliminary in vitro studies demonstrating that ID-alG™ demonstrated properties to inhibit the two main digestive enzymes.
